You rest, you rust! Helen hayes

This is true in every sense imaginable.  From a physical standpoint, we need movement to facilitate lymph drainage and stay flexible.  Our bodies atrophy from non-use and no longer serve their purpose.  It becomes harder to get up and sometimes near impossible to get quality sleep because of aches and pains.  Oxidation is another culprit of rust - on our insides, though.  When our diet is void of antioxidants and live enzymes; and consists of highly processed “fake foods” we fall prey to decay.  Superfoods like spirulina, acai and raw chocolate are loaded with protective antioxidants.   In speaking to the elderly population it is clear that mental exertion is essential to brain fitness.  Crossword puzzles, sudoko, mystery novels, learning something new - they’re all in the arsenal of a sharp 90 year old.  Dr Amen has studied the brain and how to keep it functioning at peak performance for many years now.    Solitary confinement is also an accelerator of rust - of one’s humanity.   Lack of human interaction, emotions, sharing ideas, just the art of communication becomes eroded (for most people).  It’s important to stay active, eat fresh, create new neural pathways by using your mind, and stay connected to other people.  It’s one thing to simply exist in this world, it’s an explosion of vibrance to be alive and thrive!
