Don't just wish well, wake up great!

While waiting my turn to donate at the blood bank last week, the musical Hairspray was playing on the big screen for entertainment. The character, Tracy is a very bubbly and energetic teen who sings and dances joyfully. I could sense the staff were getting tired of seeing it repeat all day with another musical, Grease. In a particular scene, Tracy's alarm clock sounds at 7am and she gleefully pounces out of bed and begins to sing and dance. One of the phlebotomists made a comment that stuck in my mind. He said, "I wish I could wake up that happy." His comment came from a position of victim mentality and lack. He felt that being that gleeful in the morning is simply not an option for himself. It made me wonder if he ever felt joy and elation (not counting the ballpark or football stadium) on a regular basis. It's really all in your perspective, not your situation per se. How we start our day is a choice, a predetermined mindset that sets the stage for the rest of the day. Did you ever notice how a bad morning can spiral into a frustrating day? Or how an especially sunny disposition seems to illuminate others around you? Of course you have, if you're paying attention! It's a beautiful universal law - you are what you think about. You've got the power to shape your morning into a glorious foundation for a better day ahead. Go ahead and use a little hairspray to make it stick! :)
